Predators are smart.
We make you smarter!

The world has become a scary place for children, teens, women and parents over the past decade. That's why SafeU is such an important program.  It teaches the red flags predators reveal about themselves so that families, schools, organizations, communities and campuses can build predator proof environments that are safe.

SafeU was founded by Mathew Obenaus and Shawn Whitehead, two personal safety experts with more than 40 years combined experience who believe the best way to build predator proof communities is through proactive awareness.  SafeU teaches early warning mental cues to avoid bad situations, rather than fighting techniques for an attack already underway.

Our workshop teaches the red flags that predators reveal about themselves and provides an awareness of how predators look, act, and choose their victims. SafeU teaches children, teens, women and parents how to become invisible or undesirable to predators.

We do not focus on "stranger danger," "bad guys are easy to spot," or other common safety misconceptions. We are committed to being open and honest about topics that are frequently ignored in other courses, such as the fact that most sexual abuse is perpetrated by someone the victim knows, not a stranger.

85% of attacks on women and children

are from someone familiar to the victim
The most surprising information students learn in SafeU seminars is that predators don't hide in bushes. According to statistics from the Department of Justice, FBI and National Victims Center, 85% of attacks on women and children are from someone familiar to the victim -- classmate, friend of a friend, neighbor, relative, spouse or boyfriend, workmate or new acquaintance. Most attacks are not performed by strangers, so we go beyond the traditional "Stranger Danger" approach.

SafeU is a comprehensive, research-based education program that helps women, children, teens and parents of all ages learn what it takes to avoid becoming a victim. Our 2-hour workshop studies how people are victimized, warning signs that often identify a potential abuser, and ways to avoid or diffuse dangerous situations.

We help our students learn to identify potential danger based on behavior patterns and actions, rather than traditional stereotypes and labels, such as “stranger.”

Most importantly, we use role playing, video segments, and handouts to reinforce workshop messages. Realistic role playing is a key element of helping participants internalize our lessons and retain and utilize what they've learn.

Our interactive workshops are customized for a variety of audiences such as Girl Scouts, college students, women organizations, Fortune 500 companies, churches and more.

Participants in SafeU seminars walk away with a deeper understanding of predators, and a renewed view and responsibility for their personal and family safety.
